Join us for an evening of celebrating the accomplishments of the refugees in Halton.
Bob Fleck has created a wonderful short documentary celebrating the successes of refugees in Halton. HMC will hold a film screening at the Films.ca theatre at 171 Speers Road. Following the film will be a discussion let by Francisco Ricco Martinez who is the Executive Director of the FCJ Refugee Centre in Toronto. Francisco is a passionate and engaging speaker and will be talking about why Canada should be investing in refugees (and he welcomes questions if you have them).
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at http://hmcconnections.com/events/welcome-home/. Net proceeds from the event will go to HMC’s refugee emergency support fund. This fund has been used to support cribs, winter clothes, food, car seats and various other items on an emergency basis for families in need.
As an added bonus, several refugee women will be selling authentic middle eastern food and treats for you to take home. This is the beginning of our Community Kitchen program that will support people to learn entrepreneurial skills through cooking.
It is going to be a great night, please join us in celebrating the wonderful local stories.
